Nissan makes several SUV models, from the tiny Kick to the giant Armada. However, prospective homeowners prefer them to rivals. Some Nissan SUVs don’t have exciting powertrains and others are too expensive. Is the Nissan Murano actually the most productive midsize SUV of 2022, and what do automotive experts say?
In a recent J. D. Power study, Nissan Murano owners were among the most satisfied drivers. This crossover would have the ride and build quality and overall appeal in the midsize SUV segment. J. D. Power editors added their own words of approval for the Murano’s affordability and aesthetic appeal.
The Murano joins the ranks of rivals such as the Hyundai Palisade and Toyota 4Runner. The two are tied in the segment of non-luxury upper midsize SUVs. The Cadillac XT6, Lincoln Nautilus, Infiniti QX60 and BMW X6 were named the midsize SUVs in the luxury segment.
While homeowners and J. D. Power were pleased with the 2022 Nissan Murano, some U. S. critics were not very helpful. The U. S. expressed combined feelings. In fact, this midsize SUV sits near the bottom of the site’s non-luxury ratings.
Car and Driver, as well as CNET, have reported that the Mafran’s handling makes it somewhat boring to drive. C/D and Autotrader were also not satisfied with the noisy and inconsistent functionality of the frequently variable transmission.
Although Edmunds was more lenient with the Murano’s gearbox, testers still encountered functionality issues when accelerating. Many critics have also pointed out that shipping capacity is below average for this segment. It supplies 65 to 67 cubic feet in total, depending on whether the style has a moonroof or not.
The 2022 Nissan Murano has some flaws, but most reviewers say it doesn’t lack power. Each style features a 260-horsepower V6 that can be optional with all-wheel drive. Regardless of its transmission, this midsize SUV consumes an average of 20/28 mpg city/highway.
Critics also agree that the Murano’s gait is enough to compensate for its lack of sportsmanship. The C/D showcases the Platinum finish for its premium interior fabrics and luxurious semi-aniline leather seats.
The Nissan Murano is also the only one to have ventilated seats. Heated front seats are popular in the SV version, and the SL also has heated external passenger seats. While cabin passengers have more legroom, rear passengers benefit from reclining seats.
The top versions of the Murano also feature premium features such as a sunroof and Bose audio system. Reviewers had no trouble navigating the infotainment interface, some complained that it might need an update.
Most reviewers still appreciate the abundance of physical controls and smartphone integration. The Nissan Murano also has a long list of complex motive force assist features and competitive crash check results.
Keep in mind that car reviewers, who check many cars each year, are not comfortable with the cars they recommend. Example: The Toyota 4Runner got overwhelmingly positive reception from owners surveyed through J. D. Power. However, U. S. News says all other 2022 midsize SUVs surpass this style in terms of overall quality.
It is also worth noting that any SUV segment is highly competitive, the slightest defect can send potential owners elsewhere.
