Italy’s fitness minister announced friday that he had signed an ordinance imposing 40-day compliance on anyone returning from Romania and Bulgaria, adding those who recently took part in the Sibiu Cycling Tour. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the order will be 38 Italian cyclists, adding Davide Rebellin and Andrea Guardini, who will not be able to take part in the resumption of the season in Italy until 11 August.
“I just signed an ordinance ordering quarantine for those who have been in Romania and Bulgaria for 14 days,” Roberto Speranza, the national fitness minister, said in a message on Twitter on Friday. “This measure is already in force for non-EU countries, not for Schengen countries. The virus has not been defeated and continues to circulate. It still takes a lot of caution.”
There are 22 groups competing on the Sibiu Cycling Tour which will end on Sunday on 23 July. There are two WorldTour groups competing; Israel Start-Up Nation and Bora-Hansgrohe. The latter won 3 of the first 4 stages and leads the overall standings with Gregor Mulberger.
There are 3 ProTeams in Italy: Nippo Delko One Provence, Vini Zabu-KTM and Bardiani-CSF-Faizane, as well as 3 Italian continental teams: D’Amico-UM Tools, Cycling Team Friuli ASD and Work Service Dynatek Vega.
