Allow us a brief foray into the not-so-small world of electric pickup trucks. Isuzu has plans to build an electron-only edition of its traditional D-Max.
Unsurprisingly, dubbed the D-Max BEV, Isuzu has unveiled a few versions of its new electric workhorse, designed to offer all the benefits of the high-performance diesel edition without. . . The diesel engine is absolutely noisy.
The plan is to install a 66. 9 kWh battery in the D-Max’s chassis that will provide a maximum output of 130 kW, about 174 hp. This is distributed in a pair of front and rear electric motors for all-wheel drive and “instant torque with a linear acceleration feel characteristic of BEVs. “
Linear acceleration is perhaps the least fun feature of a pro pickup truck, though, as Isuzu recognizes it and sets the most responsive speed to 81 mph. We’re told the D-Max BEV will have a one-tonne payload and towing capacity. Capacity of 3. 5 tonnes, which largely mirrors the ICE version.
We’re also told that you’ll be just as happy to drive quietly over “rough terrain minimizing noise and vibration” as you are to take care of urban commuting. There are plans to launch the D-Max BEV in Europe next year. , with the option to ship it to the UK and other countries such as Australia and Thailand “depending on market demand”.
