(Des Moines) Today, Governor Kim Reynolds unveiled a new, first-of-its-kind online page called Iowa Child Care Connect (kidcareconnect. iowa. gov) to make it easier for Iowans to locate young people in child care near their homes, schools, and or near parents’ and guardians’ workplaces.
“With Iowa Child Care Connect, Iowa parents will be able to locate all open child care spaces in their community or next to their charts, in near real-time,” said Governor Reynolds. “This new state-of-the-art solution is just one of the ways we address the critical child care desires of leading families in our state. Iowa Child Care Connect is a game-changer and I’m so proud of all the collaboration and work put into creating it.
Iowa HHS, in partnership with Iowa State University and Resultant, a knowledge and generation consulting firm, developed the Iowa Child Care Connect internet platform. This platform focuses on mapping child care availability for Iowans. The Governor’s Task Force on Child Care is this project.
“As a running parent with young children, I personally understand and know the difficult situations runner parents face when finding available and affordable child care,” said Iowa Director Kelly Garcia, HHS. “We are excited to offer this new, easy-to-use tool that will reach Iowa’s running parents wherever they are and expand accessibility to open child care spaces. “
Iowa Child Care Connect was deliberately created with the flexibility to adapt and replace to meet the desires of Iowans, leading to a long-term sustainable solution. This platform was built using a well-known cartographic formula that calculates times in miles and minutes. Leveraging This generation allows Iowans to identify child care openings on their way to the picture while also considering other potential stops they make.
Parents or other guardians for vacant positions may fill vacancies using express criteria, such as type of child care, age ranges, hours of operation, triage point, and availability of child care assistance.
Iowa Child Care Connect can also serve as a must-have tool in case of an emergency. First responders can use data from the daycare finder to make sure that all children in an express domain are and accounted for in the event of an emergency.
In addition to Iowa Child Care Connect, Iowa is leading the way in launching public dashboards with insights that look old and close to real-time knowledge about child care job vacancies, sources and demands, which local, regional or state can filter. Iowa HHS will use the knowledge to understand trends in supply and demand, and local officials, employers and other entities will use the knowledge to help plan for long-term child care needs in their communities or other planning efforts.
