Infiniti will officially present its new QX55 coupe crossover on social media on November 11, Nissan’s luxury subsidiary announced Wednesday. Infiniti calls this a return to the segment that the company helped to pioneer by launching the FX crossover in 2002.
“With a line of ceiling and visual elements encouraged through the iconic Infiniti FX, the QX55’s provocative design will fuse the position and versatility of a mid-range midsize crossover with the sleek profile of a sports coupe,” says Infiniti’s announcement. “Beyond its provocative appearance, the QX55 will also feature cutting-edge technologies designed to empower, interact and unite luxury consumers on the road ahead.
The announcement was accompanied by the teaser symbol above, which represents the tapered tailgate of the QX55. It’s a little more conservative than the design comic strip published in the past suggested, but it actually looks like the game.
The QX55 is one of five new cars that Infiniti plans to launch over the next 3 years. He was first mocked last August at Monterey Car Week. While Infiniti has relied heavily on the legacy of the original FX (which later became the QX70) since the release of this first design sketch, the QX55 will have little in common with its non-secular ancestor. While they may share the look of a fast SUV, the QX55 will be based on the QX50, a modern front-wheel drive crossover with small, efficient engines. Fx was derived from Infiniti’s sports sedans and coupes, and even featured a V8 option for much of its existence.
Production of the new crossover coupe should begin in June, but was postponed due to headaches at its production plant in Aguascalientes, Mexico. The facility is a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz’s parent company, Daimler and Nissan, and produces several other cars with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive for both companies.
