“Ran when parked, wishes a bit of work” is a common chorus for those of us who browse Craigslist as if it were a quiet read at night. All sorts of half-finished and probably damaged tasks are put up for sale all the time. They are rarely simple and rarely require a little work. This assignment of 1964 Aston Martin DB5 may be the ultimate expression of this mentality.
The difference here is that the seller, who indexed the car in Collecting Cars, had no illusions about what car it is. It is a totally disassembled Aston Martin DB5 that has been taken in bare parts and metal. But not only has it been dismantled, it has been completely restored to pieces. The car was returned to the bare design that had originally been manufactured through Superleggera, and then the “original factory team members” hand-churned completely new panels.
Before the car reached its pending glory state recently, it spent time in California, where it missed most of its history. He left the factory with a coat of Black Pearl paint and a White Gold leather interior. When it was discovered in 2016, it had a red leather interior and was repainted in Caribbean Blue Pearl.
Someone obviously sought to completely repair the car, even shelling out a large amount of cash to seriously paint the engine. The original engine rebuilt to DB4 Vantage specifications with a displacement of 4. 2 liters and improved oil and coolant pumps. The suspension and guide have also been reconditioned, but it’s unclear if they’ll be replaced from factory specifications.
As it stands, it’s a car that can be reassembled into something big. But it needs paint and interior lining to make it a complete recovery. Anyone who has a car assigned to them knows that the last 10% is the most expensive and most expensive part. This DB5 is presented in an “as seen” state, with no promised recovery job. If you pay money, you are guilty of everything.
