You probably already know a little bit about the new Hyundai IONIQ 2017 sedan, the world’s first car to offer hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and 100 percent electric versions on a singles platform. Otherwise, check out our review published in early March.
The big remaining question mark for consumers was the price. Now Hyundai Canada has announced the MSRP for the different trims and versions of the IONIQ, and it should shake up the market.
Available at all Hyundai dealerships nationwide, the Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid will start at $24,299. In this release, the 139 hp generated through its 4-cylinder 1.6 L gasoline engine and its 32 kW electric motor will be controlled via a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. The average fuel intake is 4.1 L /hundred km. By comparison, the 2017 Toyota Prius is priced at $27,190 and consumes 4.5 L/00 km on average.
The all-electric Hyundai IONIQ will sell for $35649, but consumers will only be able to purchase it at dealerships with charging stations, and only in provinces with procurement incentives, such as Quebec, Ontario, and British Columbia (you must have a complete list to view on the Hyundai Canada website). The price is higher than the Nissan LEAF ($33,998), but particularly lower than the Chevrolet Bolt EV ($42,795). Its 118 hp electric motor is powered by a 28 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery with a diversity of two hundred km. The combined driving consumption score of the IONIQ one hundred percent electric is 1.7 Le / one hundred km.
