Is Hyundai getting close to a luxury electric sedan?Hyundai was recently spotted testing a Lucid Air electric sedan in South Korea, suggesting that a Hyundai EV could be in the works.
Hyundai is making progress this year after selling a record 268,785 electric vehicles internationally last year.
Based on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, sales of committed electric vehicles such as the IONIQ five and IONIQ 6 continue to rise. According to data from Kelley Blue Book, Hyundai’s IONIQ five electric SUV was the sixth best-selling electric vehicle in the U. S. The U. S. government last year, with only about 34,000 registrations.
Hyundai was the fourth best-selling EV logo last year. Including Kia, Hyundai surpassed Ford (69,163) and GM’s Chevrolet (63,659) in U. S. electric vehicle registrations. In 2023, the U. S. population had more than 80,000.
The automaker will open its first battery and electric vehicle plant in the U. S. earlier than expected this year. After being recognized for its contribution to the state of Georgia with its own “Hyundai Day,” the company said it plans to begin production in the fourth quarter, ahead of its initial schedule in early 2025.
Hyundai is “moving forward” toward the $7,500 federal EV tax credit. It also plans to unveil its first three-row electric SUV, the IONIQ 7, in June at the Busan Auto Show.
According to recent videos from ShortsCar, Hyundai appears to be comparing the Lucid Air and ZEEKR X luxury electric models in Korea.
Explorations suggest that a luxury electric vehicle from Hyundai may be in the works. Hyundai’s premium Genesis logo is expanding in the U. S. It has joined the U. S. after nearly quadrupling its EV sales last year.
With more than 6,400 all-electric models delivered last year, Genesis surpassed Lucid and Lexus in terms of EV sales in the U. S. U. S. Genesis is already updating several electric models, the GV60 and the electrified GV70.
Meanwhile, Hyundai is launching a flagship Genesis electric styling at its new electric vehicle plant in Ulsan, South Korea. The plant manager announced that a “very large” Genesis electric SUV would be produced for the first time, according to the Korean Car Blog.
A report by Korean newspaper ET News claims that Hyundai is developing a large 113. 2 kWh battery for the flagship luxury electric vehicle, which is said to be among those on the market.
