Hyundai and Real Life Drift King Mix to create an electric icon

The Hyundai production car, the Ioniq Five N, has just received a dose of steroids “drifting”, and not through the king of fictitious drift or major known as “DK” of the successful 2006 Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift. This ioniq five edition N DK was encouraged and produced through nothing less than the king of real life, Keiichi Tsuchiya.

By taking the name DK Edition, this special 5 N pays homage to Tsuchiya’s nickname as the most famous figure of the drift world, having created the sport, and the term ‘drifting’ over 40 years ago while he was racing. Apart from inspiring the Fast and Furious character ‘DK,’ and making a brief cameo appearance—as a fisherman—in Tokyo Drift, he also served as a consultant for the animated Initial D drifting-themed series.

South Korea’s car manufacturer has presented the Ioniq Five N “Drift King” edition in Tokyo Auto Salon last weekend in a general crowd of more than 2five0,000 car fans. Presented at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2023 and was officially introduced in early 2024, the Ioniq Five N was acclaimed by international criticism as one of the electric cars that entertain maximums to drive. With a traction lid organization throughout the wheel of 641 horses of strength and exclusive driving modes, in specific N optimizer, mode of smile and active sound plus the fundamental ioniq five N is an explosion to boost and redefine manipulation EV.

The Ioniq Five N DK edition uses those same specifications: power update, but takes the package to the next level.

Tsuchiya’s special version features several modifications he thought would improve the stock 5 N. So under his direction, Hyundai engineers fitted stronger brakes with six-piston calipers and performance pads, new 21-in forged alloys as well as a new set of H&R lowering springs that drop the car’s ride height by 15mm, a huge rear wing, and white body paint with green accents on the grille, splitter, side skirts and rear bumper that pay homage to the Drift King’s real world color theme. Tsuchiya has worn a bespoke green racing suit with white lettering for over 30 years.

The Five N DK has an N drift optimizer mode.

To be frankly honest, Hyundai and Japanese car manufacturers, adding Toyota, have been fierce competition in all global markets for decades. Therefore, for a very Korean company such as Hyundai to pay tribute to a Japanese hero and create a special edition, his call for the Japanese market, is the least weird. But when you look at what is happening recently in Motorsport, everything is perfectly logical.

Over the past few years, Hyundai and Toyota have become very buddy-buddy thanks to their World Rally Championship rivalry and the friendship of their motor sport-loving bosses, namely Hyundai chairman Euisun Chung and Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda who went drifting in a Yaris WRC with Toyoda driving, at a recent Hyundai event in South Korea. So for the Korean company to then ask Tsuchiya to be a Hyundai N ambassador and produce a bespoke DK Edition, is a healthy extension of that newly-found common ground and friendship. Let’s hope there’s more of it.
