Ford made headlines last fall with the launch of the Mustang Mach-E SUV. The use of the mythical call to designate an electric propulsion application vehicle did not obtain the unanimous approval of the enthusiasts, but caused a sensation.
Mustang purists will be surprised, according to a report from Autocar’s website.
Reports that the next-generation Mustang can come with a hybrid version. The new edition of the iconic style is expected somewhere in 2021 or 2022, and will be presented again on all continents. This is not surprising, given that this edition has been a good fortune in Europe, with just over 55,000 copies sold on the Old Continent.
The news about a hybrid-proped Mustang is surprising, as Ford announced it in 2017. At that time, the automaker even dared to 2020 as a prospective launch schedule for the variant. Apparently, that’s changed, with the company now making plans to introduce it while implementing the next generation of the model.

Autocar mentions that in the patent filed through Ford in 2017, the corporation referred to a “twin-engine propulsion formula for hybrid vehicles”. The technical designs attached to the backrest showed a V8 that powered the rear wheels and two power trains “mounted on opposite sides of the engine”, handling the front wheels. This, of course, means that the all-wheel drive would be in the mix.
In discussing this possibility again, Autocar sharpened the initial plans with the company’s resolution of opting for the CD6 platform for the next-generation Mustang, an architecture also used for the SUV EXPLORER. And The Explorer is now available as a hybrid version.
Of course, all of this is a lot of hypotheses right now, however, summer is coming and it’s the best time to talk a little bit about the Mustang, especially when we’re all confined at home.
And if the hypothesis turns out to be true, it will be appealing to see what Ford has precisely under the hood of the Mustang. A non-hybrid V8? A 4-cylinder turbocharged engine or the return of a V6?
Stay tuned.
