Hulu’s Rosaline cast enjoyed filming the Romeo and Juliet twist finale

SPOILERS are ahead for Rosaline, now streaming with a Hulu subscription.

Shakespeare’s newest inspiration has recently arrived in the form of Rosaline, a comedy that imagines Romeo and Juliet from the attitude of Rosaline, Romeo’s ex. During filming, the actors laughed a lot doing their own tricks in the vintage tragedy, but everyone seemed to agree, it was the end of Rosaline’s turn that a memorable day on set.

When CinemaBlend spoke to Rosaline’s cast, we talked about the adjustments they had to make to the iconic story by telling it as a comedy through Rosaline’s eyes. To us:

Certainly, the scene at the end where the lovers died in the crypt and in our story are not really dead. It was very difficult to do because you have grieving relatives, but you also have this comic moment of Rosaline hunting Juliet, telling her to finish to stay dead and chasing me, while Kaitlyn’s character, Rosaline also has this glorious moment where she literally manages to communicate with any of the warring houses and say, “Recover, Why are you still fighting? So there it is, I think it’s my favorite scene because it’s this glorious connection. It’s smart, it’s literally well written and I think it’s very well interpreted.

Minnie Driver plays the nurse in Rosaline, who is also a central character in the original play. With the exception of Rosaline, the actress was able to bring her hilarious charms to the role. As he shared, the scene in which Romeo and Juliet play the dead emotion to bring it to life on set. The film’s director, Karen Maine, echoed those sentiments, adding:

It is not as unhappy and dramatic as the original. But what makes this movie so wonderful is that there are also many additional scenes than in the original play. And it was also incredibly fun.

Sean Teale, who plays a new character named Dario, agreed that ending the most productive scene as well. In his words:

Just selfishly, because it’s a laughing day to film, however, the death scene, we put our turn, and the death scene in the movie was just great. So all of us in combination in this big and lovely church. And we laughed for two days actually.

One of the biggest plots of Romeo and Juliet is the irony that they die for others, but in Rosaline they replace things. In this version, it’s just a façade to show the flaws of the two houses before Romeo and Juliet escape. Being in love without any family drama. Except that they pass by on their boat, they begin to realize that being cursed might have been the biggest draw of their hobby, as they interact in an awkward verbal exchange over pizza preferences.

When CinemaBlend spoke to Romeo about Rosaline, Kyle Allen, the actor admitted that they had talked on set about what was appropriate for Romeo: Dario. Unbelievable, right? Well, at least Rosaline makes you laugh a lot. CinemaBlend gave the film a score of 3 out of five in our rosaline review, and both critics and audiences liked the twist overall.

In our interviews with the cast of Rosaline, the film’s actress Juliette, Isabela Merced, also joked a bit about her upcoming role as Madame Web. After the Disney/Hulu release, the upcoming Disney movie releases here at CinemaBlend.

Homage to the ya genre. Horror May Queen. Word webslinger. All of her writing will be in the voiceover of Sarah Connor’s Terminator 2.
