Howard Mudd remains in intensive care after accident

Howard Mudd remains in a Seattle intensive care unit after a motorcycle destination two weeks ago. The legendary offensive line coach has undergone pelvic surgery and wants more spine and pelvic surgery, according to Joel Erickson of the Indianapolis Star.

Mudd’s circle of family and friends has created a page on the Caring Bridge website, which offers updates on his condition. He’s had ups and downs in his recovery from serious injuries.

“I have a lot of love and respect for Howard,” Colts coach Frank Reich told Erickson. “Our minds and prayers are with him and [his wife] Shirley.”

Reich, an assistant to Mudd on Tony Dungy’s staff, and Reich prevented Mudd from retiring for six months last season. Colts offensive line coach Chris Strausser has had a close relationship with Mudd since his days at the University of Washington.

“I check every day, not with Shirley, especially, obviously, she’s very busy and communicates with a lot of people,” Strausser said. “But there is an online page where we can log in and receive updates. I had a text message exchange with her. We think about him every day.”
