Howard Mudd, a former NFL player and longtime offensive line coach, died at age 78 On Wednesday after a motorcycle turn in last July.
Since the accident, Mudd had been hospitalized in the intensive care unit at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He suffered injuries to his pelvis and spine in the accident.
Mudd is survived by his wife Shirley and sons Darren and Adam. The family circle announced the news through a friend on The CaringBridge’s online page on Wednesday afternoon.

Mudd played on the offensive line with the San Francisco 49ers (1964–69) and Chicago Bears (1969-70) before retiring in 1971. He made up his way three times in the Pro Bowl and was named a member of the Professional Football Hall of Fame All-Team. of the 1960s
“We need a percentage that yesterday we (as a family) took the resolution of focusing attention on maximum comfort in Howard,” he began.
”Immediately after the accident, he fought so hard against all odds to let us know that he loves us and knows that we love him. Yesterday it became transparent that he was in a position and that we will have to surround him with love and fight for his right to comfort and peace.
‘This morning he was surrounded in the room by his sons (Darren and Adam) who held his arms and prayed over him as he passed away.’
