Ford has announced that its new fully electric F-150 will be available in mid-2022 and Ford President of the Americas and International Markets Group, Kumar Galhotra, is joining the On the Move panel to discuss.
ADAM SHAPIRO: Being a driving force at Walmart is one thing, driving with a new Ford logo is another. How is this for a transition to exciting news, Dan Howley and Julia and Julie, because Ford made news this morning about which we will communicate?with Kumar Galhotra, president of the Ford Group for America and International Markets.
I must tell you, I miss my grandmother’s 1973 Ford Gran Torino. If we had been a circle of truck relatives, the new Ford F-150, which will go on sale in November, is just the beginning of this discussion. We may communicate about this, and then we can learn how to make an investment in all electric vehicles, especially the fully electric Ford F-150. But first, tell me about the new F-150 you can buy in November.
KUMAR GALHOTRA: Yes, we’re launching it here today at our historic Red Assembly Plant, Red Complex, it will be one of the highest productivity trucks we’ve ever built, so I mean we’ve done a lot of observational studies on how our consumers use our vehicles, what their weaknesses are, how we can their lives, how we can their operations. Lots of fantastic technology. But also much of the design focused on humans.
For example, we’ve seen many employees at their structure sites take short breaks and take naps in the truck cab, so I invented a seat that sits flat, completely flat, at 180 degrees, so they can take a nap. realize that many structures have turbines that smell bad, they are noisy, so we have a PHEV, a hybrid electric powertrain, where the battery of this hybrid electric powertrain can be used as a power source.
This allows you to force your construction site and tools. So it is a very, very new product, very human-centered that will continue the culture of the best-selling vehicle that has been held for 43 years.
ADAM SHAPIRO: And what’s amazing, when you think about Ford’s story, I mean, it’s the factory first built in 1917, they made the Model A there in the 1920s, now you’ll create a generation with the fully electric Ford F-150. . I probably wouldn’t be for sale for, what, a few other years. But this vehicle has an unso cooked generation. Can you tell us about the $700 million investment not only for the structure of the new F-150, but also for this one?F-150 fully electric?
KUMAR GALHOTRA: That’s right. So the truck I just mentioned is the truck we’re launching right now, it’s the year of style 21 and we also pronounce today that we’re making a $700 million investment in this complex, where we’ll build the all-new and all-electric. F-150 electric. This happens on the market in about two years.
We are building a new meeting floor for this vehicle in this electric vehicle complex. The vehicle will also be very high-tech, and the way we’re going to make it in this factory is also very new and very exciting. So let’s create more jobs here at Red and start building this vehicle in about two years.
DAN HOWLEY: Kumar, I’m Dan Howley, I need to ask, in terms of the functions of the truck that we saw some kind of exhibit some time ago showing up in tow, I think it was a train, a bunch of cars put together. What will be the capacity of the average driver? Will they be able to bring as much as they would a popular F-150? And I guess it’s probably on the technical side, however will you continue to use the type of aluminum frame that you originally used to make sure you save on gas truck fuel intake?
KUMAR GALHOTRA: Yes, in the ad you’re talking about the little film we made in which the all-electric F-150 van dragged almost a million pounds of cars, making it a very rugged and very physically powerful Ford vehicle. It will have the maximum torque and maximum torque that any F-150 we have built. It’ll have more strength than any F-150 we’ve ever built. And this torque will be instant due to the electric motor. will be two electric motors.
Once you back up you will have up to 10 kilowatts of force, so you can use that force to generate, force your site, your structure site, your home or your tools. And it’s also designed, the flexibility of an electric battery platform gives you other attractive features. For example, the trunk is at the front. So when you remove the engine and transmission, this domain before other people call frunk is very vital for our customers, where you can safely send your beloved tools and you can block it.
It’s just more garage, which is very, very vital for our customers, and yes, we’ll continue with all the other inventions we’ve already made to the fundamental F-150, the F-150 internal combustion we’re building today. it will be a very useful truck for our customers and it will be a lot of fun to drive it, because it will have the most productive time of 0 to 60 times compared to all the trucks ever manufactured.
JULIA LA ROCHE: Kumar is Julia La Roche, and I grew up in a family circle where we had trucks, so I’d be curious because I heard you talk about capabilities. What do you think of how far you can go with a bachelor fee with this new electric vehicle you all come out of?
KUMAR GALHOTRA: So the electric vehicle we released this year is the Mustang Mach-E. It’s a Mustang, so it’s a lot of fun to drive, but it has more area than a Mustang Coupé we built today. Mustang’s funny attriudes and you can bring your family circle there. This vehicle will have a diversity of approximately three hundred miles. As for the autonomy of the truck, we still do not go into those details, because we are still in the progression phase of this vehicle, but it will be a diversity that will end all the anxiety of diversity. our customers, because it is vital for this clientele.
ADAM SHAPIRO: Kumar Galhotra is the president of the Ford Group for the Americas and international markets. Congratulations on the F-150. Good for you and the Ford team.
