A Sydney home remodeling proposal at Cedarwood Inn and Suites is nearing approval.

The waterfront assets at 9522 Lochside Dr. , comprising 97 mixed-use units, received 3 readings through Sydney Council at the March 11 meeting.

The vision of GMC Projects’ new assignment is to have 49 spaces for condominium complexes and 48 townhomes. The complex plans to have dining and living areas, fish frying areas, and green areas.

Within the condominium building, 18 will be one-bedroom, 17 will be two-bedroom and 14 will be three-bedroom.

“We need to try and create some of the features that Sydney’s citizens have lately in a single-family home,” said Jordan, president of GMC, explaining the building’s amenities in an earlier interview with Black Press Media.

Condominium citizens would get an average of 1. 5 parking spaces per unit and two per townhome. For townhomes and condos, there would be 10 visitor parking lots.

Some Sydneysiders welcomed the new development, while others shared considerations about the increased population density that the proposed construction could bring.

Resident Micheal Davis sent a letter to Sydney City Council regarding the amount of traffic the proposed complex could create at the intersection of Welier and Lochside.

“Every effort should be made to minimise the number of people entering and exiting the new development, preferably just citizens and the facilities required by citizens. We don’t want to create ad space that only increases the number of people coming in and out. Sydney has all the facilities we want within driving or walking distance,” Davis’ letter to the council said.

The proposed progression will be subject to review by the Department of Transport and Infrastructure, as Lochside Drive is a provincial road.
