In a rare move, Honda announced at a press conference earlier this week that it would bring wireless Apple CarPlay to older Accord sedans from the 2018 to 2022 design years later this year. A software update is sufficient for this feature; however, as previous-generation Accords have cellular knowledge connections, a service appointment will be required for Honda dealers to perform the upgrade.
Honda told The Drive that it plans to have an internet portal operational through the end of January where consumers can book electronic appointments for mandatory service. Accord homeowners can expect more details about the program at that time. The Drive reached out to Honda with further questions, such as initial availability for the upgrade; how much it would cost, if any; and whether it will be rolled out to other Honda and Acura brands, and will update this story as new data becomes available.
While some deals for 2021 and 2022 help the projection of cordless phones, it’s not up to an automaker to modernize such a generation in cars that weren’t originally introduced with it, so it turns out to be a useful upgrade for Honda’s many new midsize sedans.
