Honda’s long-term long-term in Australia would possibly seem bleak, however, the brand’s reputation for counterfeit engineering and reliability means that buyers have long reviewed their vehicles, especially the medium-sized CR-V SUV.
It is also highly sought after in the second-hand market as it maintains its and offers a beneficial area for passengers and the trunk, impressive driving quality and wonderful driving ease.
Families will appreciate some CR-V categories that offer seven seats and the model’s 5-star protection rating, but not their disappointing lack of a modern active protective kit, such as autonomous emergency braking, unless you purchase the following models.
The Honda CR-V will be held in five and seven seats.
Car services before July 2017 are every six months / 10,000 km (short according to existing standards), many reports from the owner report on overheating of the infotainment of the touch screen, and the squeaking of the brakes is a growl that is noticeable for some.
Mechanically, at least, cr-Vs seem to resist well, with some cases of primary problems.
These Hondas shine in suburban racing, but have no off-road concepts. Yes, there are all-wheel drive versions, but CR-Vs are strictly flexible SUVs. Positively, everyone was presented with a full-size spare wheel.
I’ll concentrate on the CR-V for up to five years. This era spans two generations, with the existing fifth-generation CR-V on sale as of July 2017. These latter variants look more muscular, are larger in all instructions and even more practical than their predecessors. Only those newest cars, for example, were going to have seven seats.
Examples from three to five years ago are particularly less expensive than new versions.
If your budget extends only to previous models, the fourth generation CR-V was introduced in 2012, and the revamped versions (RM Series II) will arrive in early 2015. The grades were VTi, VTi-S and VTi-L, each with front-wheel drive and 2.0-liter 114 kW gasoline engine, or all-wheel drive with a braver 2.4-liter, 140 kW gasoline engine. A DTi-L diesel was offered, but found virtually no buyer. All were automatic, with the exception of the unpopular manual option of the basic VTi.
Specifications benefit in general. The VTi had 17-inch alloys, LED lights for daylight hours, cruise control, keyless entry, touchscreen with multi-angle rearview camera, USB, HDMI and Bluetooth ports.
It is worth looking for a VTi-S for two-zone air conditioning, automatic headlights and windshield wipers, button start, leather guide wheel, front and rear parking sensors and blind spot monitor. The high-end VTi-L is the luxury category, adding strength and leather seats with heating, navigation, an electric sunroof and 18-inch alloys. Unfortunately, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assistance were only available as an option with Honda’s ADAS protection package.
The arrival of the fifth generation in 2017 coincided with the replacement of a three-year-to-year warranty.
Look for examples with the optional security package.
Only one engine was proposed, a 1.5-liter turbocharged 140 kW gasoline, while traditional automatic transmissions gave way to a CVT car at a speed that moans a little when pushed. The engine is ideal for cruise travel, but it may seem overworked in the hills with some passengers on board.
The ranges were VTi, VTi-S, VTi-L (seven places) and VTi-LX. All were 2WD, the high-end AWD, but it was also an option on the VTi-S.
The entry-level VTi had a start button, two-zone air conditioning and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. VTi-S added an electric tailgate, 18-inch alloys and a satellite; The VTi-L had the third row of seats, panoramic sunroof and electric leather front seats, while the VTi-LX had all active protective equipment.
Some have been reported with touch screens.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR
It is said that the CR-V’s touchscreen after July 2017 may turn off and on unexpectedly, transfer between brightness settings, reset or browse menus. Reports recommend that this happen when it is too hot and some owners have won replacement units, the challenge seems to persist.
Other court cases include poor satellite navigation, poor air conditioning, automatic replacement button drop, and annoying and squeaky brakes.
Note that if you want to install child seats in the middle row, the upper clamping strap anchors are on the roof, making it very difficult to access the third row seat.
Make sure the history is complete and that all CR-Vs after July 2017 will have an intact factory warranty, making it a smarter option.
Honda introduced seven-year transferable warranty offers, so take a look at them.
Hear unusual, whining or excessive engine noises or other oily parts underneath. Those who are supplied with the CVT car will suffer buzzing, this is unfortunately a CVT trait, but they will reject anything that is too strong. Avoid any CR-V used off-road.
IAIN SAYS 3/5
A forged and reliable multipurpose device that is best for families, if only Honda’s active protection kit is filtered to the lower grades. Versions after July 2017 have longer warranties and more equipment.
THE OWNERS SAY
JOHN WATTS: I have had my CR-V VTi-S AWD for just over a year and toured 50,000 km at that time. It is a very smart car, maybe a little boring, but easy to drive and comfortable. It returns about 7.5 L / one hundred km in total and 6 L / one hundred km on the road. I’ve had some minor disorders with Apple CarPlay that have been resolved, while adaptive cruise control is hypersensitive and has infrequently hit the brakes when I pass a vehicle. Maintenance periods can be simply longer every 15,000 km, according to other brands.
DAVID WHITEMAN: After more than 3 years and 40,000 km, my front-wheel drive CR-V VTi-S continues to impress. I’m surprised the “experts” don’t compare the CVT gearbox, I think it’s great. It is well provided and I am grateful for a complete spare. Satellite navigation, an electric tailgate and turbo strength would be fine. My original Honda agent is disappointed with the service.

The new style in 2017 doubled its sales in its first full year of release.
Carsales has about six hundred copies for sale and the maximum non-unusual variant is the well-equipped VTi-S model. Front-wheel drive models account for two-thirds of CR-V.
The entry-level CR-V VTi with a 2.0-liter engine and 2015 manual transmission charges $27,490 new and is now valued at $18,700 second-hand. The flagship CR-V DTi-L (diesel) automatic and four-wheel drive product $44,290 new and now is worth $30,100.
