What do AI, self-driving cars, Tesla, Autopilot, and hamburgers such as the infamous Burger King Whopper all have in common?
Well, a massive story, of course.
A recent ad campaign by Burger King has this smarmy catchphrase: “Smart cars are smart enough to brake for a Whopper” (here’s a link to the video).
And, just to make sure the ad comes with all the ingredients, they also imply that “artificial intelligence knows what to dream of.”
It is true that this is another remarkable example of Burger King cleverly exploiting what might otherwise have been a small viral detail of the social network in anything unmistakably marketable to sell those precious burgers and fries. This time, his eagle eye and caustic brain mean a side of automation that drives autonomous cars and may involve the use of a Tesla autopilot, which is not yet a full autonomous driving capability (despite what he might have heard otherwise. Array see my direct clarification to this link here).
This is the backstory of the so-called Autopilot Whopper tale.
In May of this year, a video was posted on YouTube by a driver recording a highway driving journey that purports to showcase a Tesla running Autopilot that mistakenly classifies a roadside Burger King sign as possibly a stop sign.
Note that the car began to slow down, gradually, and did not react with shocks or decide to check radically to prevent by detecting what it interpreted as a imaginable prevention signal.
How do we know what the car is looking to do?
According to the video recording made through the driving force, the Tesla console display shows the old message “Stop for Traffic Control”, which is an old message to shape the human driving force that the formula detects some form of traffic condition that justifies the car being stopped through the PC (to get more main points on how Array array works , see my indication in this link).
The car continued to move on the road and once the distance to the road sign decreased, the impending traffic alert was no longer released and the vehicle accelerated to the published speed limit.
You can say it’s a guilt-free situation.
No one was injured, there were no car injuries and traffic does not appear to have been interrupted in the least.
That said, yes, automation initially misinterpreted that the detected panel may be just a prevention signal and began to slow down accordingly, however, once the car was delivered close enough to do a more accurate analysis, the formula found that it did not avoid signalal and continued relentlessly in traffic.
Let’s take the video literally and assume it’s not forged or counterfeit (you can watch the original video on this link). I mention this warning because someone can easily create such a video through any decent video editing software, however, in general, the video turns out to be a more likely indication of what happened and we can assume that this is a real occasion (to be informed more about fake videos of self-driving cars, see my indication here).
Your first thought, perhaps similar to mine, whether it could be a one-size-fits-all possibility or if potentially a moment would take place, a third time, etc.
We don’t know for sure if it’s playable in line with it, even though about a month ago sleep, the same driving force began to drive in the same way and released a more recent video showing that the Tesla didn’t seem to make the same mistake. (see this link for last June’s video post).
In that subsequent video, the driver verbally congratulates Tesla for the seeming facet that the car had presumably “learned” to deal with the Burger King sign and no longer was falsely categorizing it as a stop sign.
We cannot necessarily make that leap of logic, nor leap of faith.
Why so?
There could be other plausible reasons for why the vehicle did not react the same way as it had done the first time.
Allow me a moment to elaborate.
Imagine when driving a car and you can see anything based on lighting and other environmental conditions, and you see a signal in a sharper or more hidden way, depending on the amount of sun, the canopy of clouds and the like.
Possibly it is that the tripped onion of the camera differs from the first time and that, luckily from the draw, the next step did not stumble at all with the signalalal, or discovered that the signalalt further this time (To get more main points about the AI-based road tript onion, see my discussion here).
Note that from a distance, a camera or video symbol will have fewer details and will deal with items that are only vaguely visible. Again, it’s a bit like trying to perceive a remote object, and in the same way, the onboard PC formula tries to classify everything you can see, even if you notice only faintly.
Many of those who are not interested in autonomous driving generation do not realize that driving, even human driving, is made up of a game of opportunity and uncertainties.
When you see something up ahead on the road resembling say roadway debris, a stationary object that is sitting on the road, you might not know if it is a hard object akin to a dropped toolbox from the bed of a truck, or maybe it is an empty cardboard box and relatively harmless.
Until you get closer, think about what the object might be, while you review in advance what to do. If you can replace the lanes, you may need to do so to avoid hitting the object. If you can’t seamlessly replace the lanes, it might be more productive to check to roll over the most sensitive object and not take other excessive measures, such as chips or screams.
This poses a vital lesson about AI and autonomous driving technology, namely that it will not magically paint and will not lead to perfection. Just as a human will have trouble identifying what is a road debris and will have to handle the options, AI will also have to do the same.
This is also why I urge this perception of 0 deaths due to the adoption of AI driving systems to be a false set of expectations.
We are still going to have car crashes, despite having AI driving systems. In some cases, it could be that the AI “judges” improperly and takes the wrong driving action, while in other situations such as a pedestrian that unexpectedly darts in front of a moving car there are no viable alternatives available to avoid a collision.
Please note that even the genuine self-driving car in AI is still subject to the law of physics.
When something unfavorable happens, suddenly, without an obvious warning, you can avoid a car only on the basis of physics and cannot miraculously cause the vehicle to avoid it instantly. Detention distances are prevention distances, regardless of human-driven or AI-driven cars.
That said, I actually hoped that through having AI driving systems that handle a car to the fullest, the number of car injuries due to human consumption and weaknesses in human driving will be greatly reduced and we will have far fewer injuries and deaths on our sidewalks (but, I stress, it is not yet zero).
In any case, just because the car didn’t repeat the wrong identity of Burger King’s signal in the next race, we can’t assume that this was because the car “learned” the problem.
Unless we are allowed to rummage through the autopilot formula and collected knowledge, it is not simple what would possibly have replaced, even if it turns out to be a moderate assumption that the formula would possibly have replaced and can do a greater task of managing the Burger King sign.
What is this to learn?
Suppose the formula is higher for classifying the Burger King brand.
Does that mean that the system “learned” about the matter?
First, every time you use the word “learn,” you can overestimate what automation does. In a sense, the use of this nickname is what other people call anthropomorphizing automation.

Suppose AI developers and engineers observe the knowledge gathered through their cars, add video streams, and realize that the Burger King dashboard falsely classified it as a prevention signal. These human developers may have changed the formula to prevent them from doing it again.
In that case, would you describe automation as “learning” what to do?
It’s like a stretch.
Or think that the formula uses device learning (ML) or deep learning (DL), which consists of a synthetic neural network (ANN), which is a type of mathematical-style matching technique that attempts to mimic how the human brain might work. (Know that today’s PC neural networks are far from brain function, are not equivalent, and are sometimes a type of daytime and night difference from reality).
Possibly it is that the PC formula of the headquarters in the background knowledge collected in the park wagons has collected the knowledge in a cloud knowledge base, and can also be configured to read about false positives (a false positive is when the set of detection rules evaluate that there is something out there , as a sign of prevention, but it is not a sign of prevention).

Surprising to you: there is still no AI that has an unusual reasoning appearance.
Some argue that until we can get AI to include non-unusual reasoning, we will not achieve true AI, the kind of AI that is human intelligence, which is now called AGI or synthetic general intelligence (suggesting that AI is much narrower and easier in terms of scope and functions than the aspirated edition of AI). Overall, it would be difficult to say that automotive automation has “learned” from the Burger King incident in a widespread and reasoned manner that a human could.
In any case, other people like to use the word “learn” to refer to the existing variant of AI, even if you overestimate what it is and can lead to exaggerated and confusing expectations.
The puzzle on the sign

This brings us back to the so-called “learning” aspects.
If automation now has a PC indication that a Burger King signal is not a warning signal, it is insufficient. We would also like you to “learn” that the symptoms that indicate the exit of the road are not applicable to road driving, although of course there are exceptions that make it a necessarily flexible rule and you simply claim that everything off the road symptoms can be completely ignored.
Why does automation seem to evaluate that Burger King’s signal is similar to the road in the first place?
There is a small related optical trick and one that also affects human drivers.
Burger King’s signal was the most sensible of a giant pole and was near the road.
If you’ve ever noticed their prominent signs, they are remarkable as they wrote “Burger King” in bright red letters, boldly proclaimed, and the shape of the signal is an oval, which looks like a distance in the total gaze of a sign of prevention. .
