Zurich, 13 February 2022 HIAG is constructing an apartment building approximately 80 metres high with 149 apartments and public and advertising uses on the ground floor at the intersection of Baslerstrasse and Freihofstrasse in Zurich Altstetten. The building permit has been legally binding since the end of January 2023. Construction is expected to begin in late summer 2023.

In January 2023, the structure permit for HIAG’s application to build the high-rise residential structure at Freihofstrasse 25 will be legally binding after the expiry of the final objection period. This paves the way for the implementation of the structure project, which HIAG will present in combination with “pool Architekten”, Zurich, and “hrs Real Estate”, Frauenfeld.

The 25-storey high-rise construction, which will feature 149 rental apartments on approximately 10,800 m2 of floors (1. 5 to 4. 5 rooms), will be integrated into the existing construction of the old car garage. Tenants will be presented with a non-unusual room, studios and a spacious rooftop terrace on the first floor. On the ground floor, the sales and service areas are planned at approximately 2,100 m2 on the floor, and a dining room is also projected. It will be preserved and leased long-term to a grocery retailer. Under the filigree concrete design of the former exhibition and meeting area on Baslerstrasse, a city loggia will be created available to the public. This area will be extended through a green area, also open to the public, with many trees and playgrounds.

“Sustainability played a central role in the planning,” explains Alex Römer, site developer at HIAG. “The skyscraper is built as a filigree and resource-efficient concrete design with a lightweight façade. The open spaces will remain largely unsealed and will be landscaped with local plants. A new mobility concept allows significant relief in the living spaces. parking lot”.

At the end of January, the work provisionally won the SNBS Building Construction Gold sustainability certificate.

Construction is expected to begin in late summer 2023 and last until early 2026. Occupancy is scheduled for March 2026.
