“We just made a car that we think is wonderful and that looks super strange. I just looked for a futuristic war tank, anything that turns out to be out of ‘Blade Runner’ or ‘Aliens’ or something, but also highly functional,” he says.
The Cybertruck will be offered in a version with three motors that Tesla claims can accelerate to 60 mph in under 2.9 seconds, tow 14,000 pounds and go over 500 miles between charges. Musk said Tesla had earned more than 200,000 bookings since the Cybertruck was filed last November, however, each required only a $100 refundable deposit. If not enough of them are transferred to purchases for The Tesla plant in Austin, Texas, to continue operating, he said the company is in a position to make a change.
