A charismatic CEO with a penchant for drama and an ambitious plan to build the customer’s first global electric vehicle. You probably think I’m talking about Tesla, but years before the Model S turns a wheel, Nissan tried to conquer this terrain with its Leaf EV battery. Well, this CEO is gone now, and the Leaf hasn’t been able to sell in the volume I expected through Nissan. But next year, the Japanese manufacturer takes a bite to the Ariya, a new BEV that was revealed on Wednesday’s world morning in Japan.

The Nissan Rogue is a huge advertising success, but is it good? You’ll probably feel a touch of déj vu, that’s consistent with normal, because a barely veiled concept of the Ariya was presented at last year’s Tokyo Auto Show and this year’s CES, where lucky ducks were even able to drive it. (I suppose this will teach me how to stay home.) It is about the same length and shape as the company’s best-selling Rogue crossover, and Nissan expects the Ariya to follow in the footsteps of this car with respect to sales. table – at the time of the Array revelation, its new CEO, Ashwani Gupta, said that “the company expects sales of its electric cars and electrified e-POWER models to exceed one million consistent games in the year until 2023. Ariya will play a vital role in achieving this goal. objective.” (Check your chalfinishars until the end of March 2023 to see if this is happening).

On the outside, it has about the same length and shape as the best-selling Rogue crossover. Inside, it’s all tasteful minimalism, which Nissan’s press documents describe as “like a sublime coffee room on a spaceship,” and I come with this so as not to laugh at who wrote this because I think they’re on to something. As with the Volkswagen Group’s upcoming MEB-based electric crossovers, the Ariya makes full use of the BEV skateboard design to maximize the cab area with the most sensitive battery. With the car turned off, it seems to mimic the Buttonless Aesthetics of the Model 3, with a giant touchscreen info and entertainment system. But turn on the Ariya and backlit haptic controls will appear, placed on the black wooden board.

The powertrain is new and comes in some other configurations. You can specify this with a single 160 kW (215 hp) front engine or a 290 kW (389 hp) twin-wheel drive engine, which Nissan calls 4ORCE. We hope the latter will be a laugh to drive, as Nissan says the 4ORCE is the non-secular offspring of its legendary ATESSA GT-R all-wheel drive system.

And there are a couple of battery packs: one with 63 kWh usable (65 kWh in total) and a longer-range package with 87 kWh usable (90 kWh in total). Choose the largest package and single engine, and your Ariya deserves to be able to reach three hundred miles (482 km) at a single speed (either via 7.2 kW AC or 130 kW CC with a CCS plug). You also don’t deserve to worry about battery life: unlike first or second generation Leafs, the Ariya will use active thermal management.

Nissan BEV’s largest battery – Leaf Plus 2019 The Ariya mag will go on sale in about a year in Japan, and sales in the U.S. will begin later in 2021 with an initial value of $40,000.
