For the past few decades, Infiniti cars have been the vehicle of choice for discerning drivers who value luxury, power, and functionality as much as they do. Between 2003 and 2009, the G35 sports sedan was arguably the crown jewel of Infiniti’s fleet, with Motor Trend even naming it Car of the Year 2003.
Such honors and accolades have helped make the G35 a fortune for Infiniti, with consumers and critics alike admiring its sleek lines, unique grille and, of course, rugged engine. The G35’s moderate price tag made it even more attractive to prospective buyers. Since a base model of a 2003 G35 can be had for less than $40,000, buyers were no doubt surprised by what the car contained under the hood, as it came equipped with the new V6 engine. This remained the case until 2006, when the G35 gained innovations in terms of design and under the hood. With minor modifications to the V6 engine, models from 2006 and later can bring the force closer to three hundred horsepower, if not more.
With such impressive statistics, it’s no wonder the Infinity G35 was so popular with consumers. Given its combination of strength and performance, the vehicle has also earned a bit of affection on various race tracks, with drivers powering G35s equipped with supercharged engines as they took to the track.
The love for the G35 has not escaped the heads of Infiniti. Although the automaker stopped producing this hugely popular car in 2008, the influence of Infiniti’s first luxury coupe can be seen in several models the company has made in its wake. The evolution of the Infiniti coupe began a year after the G35 was discontinued. It was replaced by the all-wheel-drive G37. This transparent predecessor largely borrowed the design of the G35 and improved everything internal and external, adding the V6 engine, which now boasted more than 330 hp.
The Infiniti G37 gave way to the Q40 and the Q50, with vehicles each debuting largely cosmetic changes in style and engine build. According to the Infiniti website, the G35 would go on to inspire concept cars like the flashy 2010 Essence. In 2015, the G35 base would also serve as inspiration for one of Infiniti’s current best sellers, the high-powered Q60 coupe. The Q60 is, of course, a stylishly evolved version of its predecessors, fit with all the bells and whistles modern drivers expect in an automobile. The vehicle also comes with a highly-evolved twin turbo V6 engine capable of pushing 400 hp, and that’s an upgrade any driver can appreciate in a luxury vehicle.
