HELP NEEDED: Disaster relief team seeks repairs months after tornadoes

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — After months of volunteering at tornado crisis sites in Oklahoma, the Washington-Osage Disaster Relief Team wants help.

The volunteers tested the device in their workshop and began repairing it.

“It’s one of those contracts where you have to be there and able to go,” Missions Director Monty Hale said.

He said they respond quickly, but they want functional teams.

“These guys are volunteers. The average age of our organization is 70 and they’re out in the heat all the time doing the work,” Hale said.

But now they hope to be able to finance the repairs.

The nonprofit agreement relies on donations to provide its services free of charge.

“They wear out temporarily because they’re with them. A lot of them have really big trees and that kind of stuff,” Hale said.

Morris, Marietta, Sulphur, Holdenville, Barnsdall, Bartlesville, Claremore, Pryor, and Salina are among many Oklahoma communities receiving help through the group.

Three months later, his device has been put to the test. “Probably 3 or 4 days after a big cleaning job. It is the first time they have controlled to do this in the last two or 3 months, because it is a task. thing,” Hale said.

As they work on cleaning them up, he also gives the team a moment of rest, reading the Bible to talk about things.

“We’re going to have 20 to 25 guys on Monday and that will help them a lot deal with what they’ve seen, and it’s been pretty tricky in some situations,” Hale said.

But while they were cleaning the equipment. They don’t forget why they do what they do. “You know, the Bible tells us to faint and take care of those who are in need. Those who are in a crisis scenario are a motivation for this. It’s not for our own glory or anything. So it is to the glory of the Lord Jesus,” Hale said.

They worked hard to fix everything, even abandoning some chainsaws that could not be repaired.

The goal is to put this caravan back on the road to some other crisis scenario so that it can reach other communities.

If you would like to donate to set prices and purchase a new truck, they have set up a GoFundMe.
