LOS ANGELES (AP) — A jury of nine men and 3 sat Thursday at Harvey Weinstein’s rape and sexual assault trial in Los Angeles, with opening statements scheduled for Monday.
They were selected in a procedure that lasted about six days from an organization of 225 jurors who were convened last week.
Later in the day, 8 alternates also sat down and took the oath. The two sides had originally planned to have 10, but agreed on 8 and temporarily agreed on who they would be. One of the alternates called the expired court on the day to say it may just not work. That juror can be expelled from the workplace on Monday morning. The court will hear final motions on witnesses and testimony that will be allowed on Friday.
The trial is expected to last six weeks.
The 70-year-old former movie mogul, who is already serving a 23-year sentence for rape and sexual assault following a 2020 conviction in New York, pleaded guilty in Los Angeles to 4 counts of rape and seven counts of sexual assault. . attack.
Because his unpublic data was most often revealed in questionnaires that remain sealed, little is known about the 12 jurors who will blame Weinstein. Those who were seated were asked some questions in court.
Their ages would basically be between 40 and 70 years old. Some gave the impression of being older than that, and one man gave the impression of being between 20 and 25 years old. Of the 3 women, two are older adults and one appears to be around 30 years old.
One of the women told the variety procedure that she was “undecided” about the #MeToo movement.
“I maximize women, but not necessarily all,” she said.
Another, an older man, has a daughter who is a lawyer. “I have a lot of respect for anyone at the table and for our justice system,” he told one of Weinstein’s lawyers.
He expressed doubts about whether he could hand down a guilty verdict in a sexual assault case without DNA evidence, of which there is no evidence in this trial.
“It’s kind of an ambiguous question,” the jury said. It all depends on the type of aggression. “
Another man said he wasn’t worried about being disappointed by family, friends or colleagues if they learned he had rendered a not guilty verdict opposed to Weinstein.
