Thousands of DHL painters at Jaguar Land Rover plants have learned that his paintings threatened a resolution described as a “hard blow” through a syndicate.
According to Unite, approximately 2,200 companies interested in the production of Jaguar Land Rover cars at sites in the Northwest and West Midlands could be affected.
According to Unite, two out of five workforce workers hired through DHL under the JLR logistics contract face redundancies, including full-time workers, employees and acting under contract.
Discounts will go to all JLR primary plants in the Northwest and West Midlands, adding Castle Bromwich, Ellesmere Port, Halewood, Hams Hall, Midpoint, Solihull and Tyrefort.
The proposed 2,200 redundancies make up only 40% of DHL’s total contracted workforce.
DHL did give an express date to complete the redundancy procedure, but indicated that some of the task losses were the result of a decrease in car production and the other part was the result of the planned “efficiency savings”.
Unite’s head of national logistics, Matt Draper, said: “This is a hard and hard blow to a committed, and on the eve of the Chancellor’s speech, it emphasizes the urgency of the need for a task coverage action by the government.
“Once again, while governments in Spain, France and Germany are moving temporarily to insure their car manufacturers in the long term, we see not as much ambition in the British government component and, as a result, jobs are disappearing.
“Unite has not yet gained top points on how DHL intends to take out 50% of the proposed layoffs through power savings, however, we make DHL transparent that they will not be able to force those personnel to take workloads while they show other staff. The door.
“Although DHL is the employer, the truth is that the staff is fulfilling their role for JLR. JLR has an ethical duty to ensure that staff are treated fairly decently at this incredibly difficult and stressful time.”
“DHL does not attempt to fire permanent full-time staff while outsource paintings to subcontractors.”
DHL has been contacted for comments.
