As Mexico continues to be a hotspot for offshoring brands, some Mexican politicians have gone on excursions to attract investment to their states. This week, the governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez, visited Asia and announced major investments planned for the state of Bajío.
“We started our business in Japan with wonderful news for Guanajuato,” Governor Rodriguez shared on the social media platform X. “Global generation leader NTT Data has selected León, Guanajuato, to expand its operations. “
NTT Data is a multinational consulting and generation company headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, with operations in more than 50 countries. The company already operates in León.
Although neither the government nor the company have given details on the amount of the investment, it is believed to be the creation of specialized teams for the state’s telecommunications, banking and insurance sectors, creating some 500 jobs for engineers specializing in generation development.
Governor Rodriguez also showed in his X account that Nippon Steel Trading will invest $71 million in a plant in Apaseo el Grande, Guanajuato, already under construction.
According to a statement from the company, “the plant will become a very important source base to meet the growing demand for electric cars in North America. “It will specialize in the processing and sale of electrical sheet metal.
The new plant aims to produce 120,000 tonnes of metal and is expected to create 200 direct jobs. It will become operational in April 2025.
Nippon Steel Corporation is Japan’s largest metal manufacturer and one of the world’s leading metal manufacturers, with operations in 15 countries. In December, it announced a deal to buy U. S. company U. S. Steel for $14. 9 billion. However, on Wednesday, Reuters reported that U. S. President Joe Biden plans to voice his thoughts on the proposed acquisition, which is expected to be finalized in the second or third quarter of this year.
China’s automotive aluminum smelter IKD will invest $178. 2 million in Guanajuato, generating about 1,000 jobs, according to Rodríguez.
IKD produces and markets high-precision aluminum alloy castings for automobiles, as well as electric vehicles (EVs). Neither the company nor the government of Guanajuato provide further details on how the investment will be used.
However, as reported by Clúster Industrial, the investment will most likely be allocated to the structure of a new factory, based on data that an area of 30,000 square meters is being structured next to the current IKD Mexico plant in Irapuato.
Yusei Holdings, a Japanese corporation specializing in plastic injection molding for the automotive industry, also announced an investment in Guanajuato. The corporation says it will build a factory for $84 million (although the location has not yet been confirmed) and Rodriguez said it will create 500 jobs in the state.
The company opened its corporate operations in Querétaro in 2019 and counts Toyota, Volkswagen, Ford, Nissan, Honda, Mercedes Benz, Buick, Audi, BMW, Tesla and Volvo among its main clients.
Globally, Yusei Holdings also manufactures and markets plastic molds and components, providing meetings and services.
