GMC Hummer EV prototypes revealed, debut rescheduled for fall

General Motors is running a new Hummer, but this time it will be sold with the GMC logo and will feature a battery powertrain. yes, a call that was once synonymous with giant pickup trucks and gasoline SUVs is about to be electric.

GM set May 20 as the date for the release of the electric Hummer, which will be called GMC Hummer EV, but the automaker said Wednesday that the disclosure had been delayed until the fall.

Despite the delay, GM said the vehicle was still on its way for a market launch in the fall of 2021. The expected date suggests that the GMC Hummer EV will arrive as a 2022 model.

The teaser image above was released in January and shows a new take on the signature Hummer grille. That grille will front a pickup truck packing as much as 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque (measured as wheel torque), or enough for 0-60 mph acceleration in 3.0 seconds.

The teaser video released in April with a drone strike heard from the Hummer EV. It is difficult to do many things from the video, however, approach and it is transparent that there is nothing more sensitive in this Hummer. This is our first indication that the Hummer EV will be featured with a detachable roof.

GM’s new BEV3 modular EV platform and Ultium batteries allow the Hummer to reborn. Ultium batteries will be between 50 and two hundred kWh in length and will come with designs of 400 and 800 volts. The latter will allow an 80% rate to be made in less than 30 minutes.

Production of the GMC Hummer EV will begin in the fall of 2021 at the Detroit-Hamtramck meetinghouse, which is being remodeled into a commitment to EV production. An SUV edition configured for off-roading is also available.

GM Cadillac also delayed the introduction of a vehicle founded on the BEV3 platform, the Lyriq electric SUV, which will be unveiled in April. In late June, GM announced that the Lyriq would be unveiled on August 6. Production will begin in 2022.
