Last week, GM Authority was the first to report on a new alloy rim design for the GMC Hummer EV 2022. We now have another exclusive about this highly s expected all-electric application with the news that the new Hummer could be provided with Nitto Terra Grappler G2 Tires.
According to a symbol showing the GMC Hummer EV 2022 stripped of its bare platform, we see the new smaller diameter wheel design that GM Authority covered exclusively last week. The packaging of these silver alloys is a competitive rim compound with thick sides and a twisted tread pattern.
By the tire symbol, we place a dash along the outer flank that implies that this specific set of tyres is Nitto’s Grappler G2 series.
Offered as an off-road smooth truck tire, the Grappler G2 combines on- and off-road features that can perfectly match anything like the new GMC Hummer EV. However, there are a few caveats that are worth mentioning here.
First, General Motors has not yet provided official confirmation that the upcoming GMC Hummer EV will offer Nitto Grappler G2 tires. Secondly, and perhaps most importantly, the tread carving observed here does not fit the tread of Nitto Grappler G2 tires on the market lately. As such, this is just a hypothesis at this point.
Anyway, the GMC Hummer EV is said to offer “amazing on- and off-road features,” meaning you’ll want the right rubber underneath to keep that kind of promise. In addition, the new Hummer will produce an astonishing power of 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque in its impressive final form, achieving 60 mph in just 3 seconds. Even with 4WD, this type of output requires hard rubber, which makes tire selection even more critical.
As a reminder, the GMC Hummer EV will be presented in both truck and SUV, and will run on the GM BT1 electric vehicle platform. GM’s Ultium battery generation will provide the juice, with a battery life consistent with the speed expected to increase. succeed in 400 miles for some variants. Production is expected to take a stand at GM Detroit-Hamtramck’s plant, with a revelation this fall.

So it’s interesting . . . but not unexpected.
Here is an excerpt from an article about Motor Trend, a long time ago when the BT1 chassis was first introduced in public:

The tires of this style of chassis were BF Goodrich Mud Terrains . . . some of the most productive off-road tires. That wonderful news. I think, assuming the Nittos are also included, they’ll probably be the fundamental tyres, the ‘street tyres’. The Mud Terrains will probably be for the Hummer’s hard core variants, either the two-engine variant, the three-engine variant. variant, or both The Design of the Nitto tread is not as competitive as that of mud terrain.
I tires BF Goodrich AT. They last forever.
I don’t think you’ve noticed anyone saying that BFG AT KO2 is the last forever. It’s a perfect tire for the first 50% tire wear, after that not so much. I’ve used them in a 2500HD for years I put 2 new BFGs every year. He towed heavy, so there’s this: as smart as this tire is at first, I never found it smart enough to justify the speed at which they wear out.
These are the tires never made. I had knockouts on my factory Hummer H2 that lasted 70,000 miles, then I put a new set and they have 30,000 miles on them.
