GMC Hummer EV 2024 SUV: everything you knew about its ICE past

In 2021, GMC announced it would resurrect the Hummer from the dead with an all-new version that revolutionized the large vehicle: an electric powertrain. The Hummer EV now comes in the form of an SUV or truck, and either is wildly absurd and delicious. These wide-bodied Apex predators look like their ’90s ancestors, but all they have in common is a family resemblance.

In some ways, the Hummer is much smoother than an electric vehicle. Of course, it’s quieter; If you need to walk on a trail, only the sound of debris and dead branches will give you away, because the engines make a slight sound. The cabin is also quieter, making it less difficult to listen to music from the upgraded Bose premium audio system. I’d rather break the silence with 80s steel and 90s grunge, but if you’re into Taylor Swift, Travis Scott, or Tchaikovsky, that’s fine too.

The Hummer EV SUV 3x (the three-motor version) appeared in my driveway wearing Tide Metallic paint, a soft shade of blue. For me, this blue finish is much preferable to the intimidating black, dull white, or unsightly orange Afterburner Tintcoat.

At first glance, this vehicle is any other vehicle on the road. And if you can manage its huge presence, it has a lot to offer.

Equipped with two or three motors, up to 830 horsepower, and even more impressive torque, the Hummer EV SUV drives with an air of swagger. Confidence. Aggressiveness. While driving, I pass cars and think, “I’m bad; I’m bad. You know it.

I expected the electric vehicle to be a laborious monster, but it’s strangely agile. Honestly, I think parking this huge vehicle would be a lot harder than it is. It’s strangely simple to get to a parking spot in the Hummer EV SUV and nail it right between the lines. To be fair, I live in Austin, not downtown Chicago, and the parking masses here are pretty generous. I mean, pickup trucks are the queens in Texas, so compact cars are giving ground. In addition, the Hummer EV SUV takes up its percentage of space, like sitting in the middle seat of an airplane and lying down, taking over the domain around them unapologetically.

When the Hummer EV pickup truck was first introduced a few years ago, I had a chance to drive it off-road in the desert. I already knew I could overcome rough terrain and traverse narrow roads in Crab Walk mode. As an SUV, the Hummer EV has a ground clearance of 10. 2 inches in Popular mode and can be raised up to 16 inches in Extraction mode.

With a DC fast charger, the SUV can be charged in about an hour, which is possibly like a long time. Given that this 9,000-pound vehicle includes a giant multi-layer battery, it’s surprising that it can be recharged so quickly. Of course, home charging is the most convenient option, so the electric vehicle can recharge its energy while you sleep.

So go ahead, turn it up, and blast Muse’s “Uprising” as you fly down the road, electrons on fire. People will watch you as you drive by the GMC Hummer EV; I say: kiss him.
