Dubai: The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said on Monday that the new driverless taxi that will be operational in the emirate until the end of next year will be cheaper than any other limousine service.
The announcement came on the sidelines of Gitex Global in Dubai.
“We recently completed an initial phase of virtual maps of the Jumeirah domain for autonomous cruise vehicles,” Awadhi added.
“By 2023, Dubai will operate commercially with Cruise autonomous cars. The costs of driverless taxis will be cheaper than those of a limousine in Dubai. By 2030, there will be 4,000 cars in service,” he added.
Awadhi said the autonomous vehicle is used lately in Cruise’s fleet of self-driving cars in San Francisco.
The RTA also showcased the latest metaverse technologies, employing “virtual doubles” to demonstrate the Dubai Metro rail network. The virtual dual platform combines the old maintenance knowledge of the last 12 years of Dubai Metro service with real-time knowledge collected through external knowledge gathering devices to reveal minute main points and other critical conditions that the asset lifecycle.
