FRANKFURT – Germany’s KBA motor vehicle authority is investigating the alleged handling of gas engines by Porsche AG to download emissions data.

A KBA spokesman said Monday that research into gasoline engines that Porsche, Volkswagen’s luxury sports vehicle unit, had produced for the European market before 2017.

Porsche showed a newspaper article on Sunday that he had informed the government after internal investigations into alleged irregularities.

German prosecutors fined Porsche 535 million euros ($632 million) last year for failures that allowed the company to cheat on diesel emissions testing, but petrol engine handling has still been demonstrated.

A Porsche spokesman said Sunday that the disruptions were similar to those of cars that evolved several years ago, adding that there is no indication that existing production will be affected. The automaker is working hard with the authorities, he added.

The weekly Bild am Sonntag reported that engine research evolved between 2008 and 2013, adding those of the Panamera and 911 models, with alleged illegal hardware and software modifications that may be limited to exhaust systems and engine components.

The newspaper also said that in addition to discussions with employees, evidence is also sought in the minutes of corporate meetings and thousands of emails.
