Whitfield County, in northwestern Georgia, has landed an $85 million plant owned by the German company GEDIA to manufacture portions for electric vehicles, the time in the United States and the first in the southeast.
“I’m very happy to be here with [CEO] Markus Schaumburg and his team in Germany today as remotely safe, thanks to him and GEDIA for choosing to build their first facility in the southeastern United States in Georgia,” Wilson said in a statement. press release.
Wilson accompanied Governor Brian Kemp on a trip to the country in January, where they visited a fully electric Production Porsche factory Taycan and relaunched the European State’s Office of Trade, Investment and Tourism in Munich in a new location.
This week, they reiterated what they said at the time, namely that Georgia is emerging an “ecosystem” in the manufacture of electric cars as the huge SK Innovation battery facility expands the state’s automotive sector.
“As a national leader in manufacturing, logistics and workforce training, I am confident that this circle of family businesses will be very pleased with its resolve to enroll in the developing electric vehicle ecosystem here in Georgia,” Kemp said in Liberation.
GEDIA, a company that is more than 100 years old in Attendorn, North Rhine-Westphalia, manufactures structural components, adding look beams, chassis parts and bumpers; The Dalton area plant will introduce a new metal formation strategy to the U.S. market that will allow portions to be made strongly in a lighter format. Weight relief is essential for efficiency.
GEDIA will build a new 180,000-foot facility at a qualified Georgia Ready for Accelerated Development site, where it will rent to executives, technicians and production workers.
The company has worked with automotive brands such as Volvo, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and more. Many classic automakers have announced significant pivots in electric cars over the next decade as demand increases.
Volkswagen and Ford are expected to produce new electric models until 2022, and the latter plans to introduce an F-150 electric van. SK Innovation has been selected as a supplier for both, but its rival LG Chem, also founded in South Korea, alleges that the company has stolen its industry secrets and is asking the U.S. International Trade Commission to prohibit the importation of SK BATTERIES and COMPONENTS would like to manufacture in Georgia. Reuters reported that an approved judgment issued an initial ruling in favor of LG Chem, and a final ruling is expected in October.
