German auto parts manufacturer invests $85 million in new Whtfield County plant

A German auto parts manufacturer will build a plant in Whitfield County as a component of an $85 million investment.

Family-run GEDIA Automotive says the facility will create two hundred jobs in the Dalton metropolitan area.

Installation will be carried out in portions for electric vehicles.

“As a national leader in workforce manufacturing, logistics and workforce training, I am confident that this circle of family businesses will be very pleased with its resolve to enroll in the developing electric vehicle ecosystem here in Georgia,” Governor Kemp said. “Once again, continued state investment in our German-based European workplace is paying off, and I look forward to seeing the opportunities GEDIA is creating for Georgians working hard in Whitfield County.”

GEDIA manufactures portions of lightweight structural cars for Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo and other companies. Headquartered in Germany, it will mark the first company in the southeast and its installation at the moment in the United States.

GEDIA will use automated welding, press and portioning processes for electric vehicles, and operations are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2021.

The new plant will occupy a 180,000-foot facility of GRAD-certified assets in Carbondale Business Park.
