Hyundai’s luxury brand Genesis outperformed Mercedes-Benz in the most sensible high-end car sales in Korea for the first time in 4 years.
According to industry figures On Monday, Genesis sold 60,005 cars from January to July, with 41,583 Mercedes-Benz and 29,246 cars from BMW.
Genesis sales increased by 65% year-on-year, while Mercedes-Benz increased by 3% and BMW by 35%.
In 2016, newcomer Genesis enjoyed a honeymoon and sold 66,278 cars, ahead of Mercedes-Benz (56,343) and BMW (48.459), Mercedes took the lead for the next 3 years.
The secret to Genesis’ good luck is the release of new models. It deployed the GV80 in January, its first SUV. By July, 20,016 GV80s had been sold, which already reached the brand’s 24,000 brand sales target for the year.
But it was the third-generation G80 sedan, which arrived in the showrooms in late March, that played the most important role with sales from 28993 through July, already surpassing last year’s total sales of the previous model.
Hyundai will launch the GV80 and G80 in the United States later this year.
The brand’s robust functionality is expected to continue, with two models aimed at young drivers later this year, the smaller GV70 SUV and the partially manufactured G70 sports sedan.
