General Motors Co. has announced that it will move its global headquarters from the Renaissance Center on the Detroit River to the Detroit Hudson in 2025, becoming the anchor tenant of the Bedrock progression at the historic former J. L. Hudson on Woodward Avenue.
Financial terms of the transaction between GM and Bedrock are not disclosed for the automaker’s initial 15-year tiered lease for the most sensitive floors of the new office construction north of the 48-story Hudson tower in Detroit, as well as the street-level demonstration area for GM Automobiles and network activations.
This is GM’s fourth headquarters in the city since 1911. Bedrock, the City of Detroit and Wayne County will team up to explore opportunities to rebuild the Renaissance Center over the next year, before GM moves to Hudson Detroit. GM purchased the Renaissance Center in May 1996.

The move to Detroit in the Hudson will mark GM’s return to Woodward Avenue, where the company established its first headquarters in the city.
