General Motors is recalling more than 323,000 heavy-duty pickup trucks in the U. S. Electronic Tailgate Release Transfers can short-circuit and open doors when cars are parked. The recall covers certain Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 trucks from the 2020 through 2024 design years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states in documents that water can enter transfers and cause tailgates to open when in a park. The firm says this can lead to uninsured goods falling, increasing the risk of an accident. GM advises owners to check that the tailgate is closed and locked before driving trucks. Dealers will update a transfer on the external touchpad. Homeowners will need to be notified by mail starting March 18.
General Motors is recalling more than 323,000 heavy-duty pickup trucks in the U. S. because electronic tailgate switches can short-circuit and open doors when cars are parked.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says in documents released Tuesday that water can get into the switches and cause the tailgates to open when parking. The firm says this can cause unsecured goods to fall off the platforms, creating a hazard on the road and amplifying the threat of an accident.
GM is advising owners to check that the tailgate is closed and latched before they drive the trucks. Dealers will replace an exterior touchpad switch. Owners are to be notified by letter starting March 18.
GM dealers have also been asked to stop selling affected vehicles until maintenance is completed.
The company says in documents that it has won 136 court cases over opening tailgates. GM reported one complaint for minor injuries and three court cases for damage to minor assets.
