The Detroit Lions are one win away from their first Super Bowl and it’s understandable that Motor City is excited about it. So much so that on Sunday afternoon it even suspended the activity of the automotive sector.
At least temporarily.
General Motors is pushing back the start of its third shift at the Flint, Michigan assembly plant by one hour to allow employees to watch Sunday’s NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers. That delay should allow employees on that shift to see the entirety of the game and still make it to work on time.
This Flint plant makes pickup trucks (Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra) for GM and, according to the Detroit Free Press, is the only auto plant in Michigan that has a third shift on Sundays.
They were therefore the only personnel organization at risk of missing part, if all, of Sunday’s game. Now this is no longer a problem.
Several GM workers announced the news of the heist on social media.
GM wrote to its workers in a note, Detroit Free Press:
The third shift at the Flint plant begins at 10 p. m. m. , Eastern time, and lasts nine hours, while Sunday’s NFC championship game kicks off at 6:30 p. m. m. Y in San Francisco.
This is the Lions’ second appearance in the NFC Championship Game and their first since the 1991 season.
They lost the 1991 game in Washington by a 41-10 margin. The Lions remain one of four groups that have never made it to the Super Bowl, joining the Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans. Sunday.
