WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The former Executive Director of CareerSource of Palm Beach County is responding to the agency, saying he was forced to quit his job.
Robert “Steve” Craig filed a lawsuit Tuesday in Palm Beach County opposing his former employer, claiming he “suffered a $1.8 million loss in lost wages” and because his contract ended in December 2025.
Craig resigned as CEO last February after facing accusations of a relationship with a subordinate. The trial alleges that he was retaliated against after expressing fear for the “illegal and criminal” activity of another employee.
Craig says the retaliation included “accusations of sexual misconduct with a subordinate” and “opposed discrimination on the belief of an alcohol-related disability.”
In a statement, Craig’s attorney Christopher Cook told WPTV that his consumer “believes he was constructively dismissed for illegal reasons and suffered damage in the form of pain, suffering and damage and is now seeking compensation.”
Jeffrey Pheterson, the lawyer representing CareerSource in Palm Beach County, rejected the allegations. In an email, Pheterson told WPTV that Craig “voluntarily chose to give up his previous task this year, when he presented the opportunity to resign at a time of significant unrest for the company he ran, while actively caring about this confusion.”
“CareerSource Palm Beach County flatly denies ignoring Steve Craig, discriminating against him, or violating his rights in any way,” Pheterson wrote to WPTV.
No trial date has been set.
