Former Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto will lead Audi in Formula 1, while current bosses Oliver Hoffmann and Andreas Seidl will leave, the German manufacturer announced on Tuesday.
Binotto will join on August 1 as operational director and technical director of Sauber Motorsport, an entity based in Switzerland that has recently competed under the Sauber call and will become part of the official Audi team in 2026.
Audi said Binotto would have “the responsibility and responsibility for the operational control and sporting good luck of the racing team. “
“I am very pleased to have hired Mattia Binotto for our ambitious Formula 1 project,” said Gernot Döllner, CEO of Audi AG.
“With his many years of experience in Formula 1, he will undoubtedly make a decisive contribution to Audi. “
His appointment represents a big change in management just a year and a bit before Audi officially becomes an entity on the grid.
Seidl left McLaren at the end of 2022 to lead the project, but will lead it until he arrives in the paddock.
Seidl helped recruit Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg for 2025, the team is yet to find a second driver for next year and beyond.
Audi has focused on outgoing Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz, who worked with Binotto in 2021 and 2022, in the other position, but has not yet taken his next step.
Binotto left Ferrari at the end of 2022 after 4 seasons at the helm of the team, his career in the Italian team dates back to 1995.
