Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) announced plans Thursday to invest $ 700 million to build a new plant in the Rouge Complex, the all-new Rouge Electric Vehicle Center, which will bring electric F-150 manufacturing and three hundred new jobs to Dearborn.
The plant will also build the F-150 hybrid as well as the battery assembly. The all-electric F-150 is expected to go on sale until mid-2022, Ford said.
F-150 Hybrids and Electrics: The fully electric Ford F-150 is the toughest F-150 to date and is specially designed for Americans who want to do the job, the company said.
The Hybrid Ford F-150 is expected to be released by the end of this year. The 35 kW, 47-horsepower electric motor applies recovery braking to capture energy and is helping to recharge the 1. 5 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery.
The transfer to electricity will allow the new F-150 to provide “savings of more than 40% in its total lifetime operating cost” to F-150 gasoline, according to Ford.
The vehicle will also get updates, as will Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) vehicles.
The benzinga: Ford the socket, is bet on the electric F-150, spending $700 million on a new production plant that will also be that of its battery set.
Although the Tesla Cybertruck is expected about six months before the electric F-150, the radically different flavor can make it less competitive.
