Ford recalls nearly 1. 9 million older Explorer SUVs due to loose parts that could increase crash risk

Ford is recalling about 1. 9 million Ford Explorer SUVs in the U. S. This is due to loose clips that can come loose, allowing the windshield panels to fly off when the vehicle travels at highway speed.

The recall covers the 2011-2019 style year Explorers.

The recall concerns A-pillar retaining clips that hold the trim covering the vehicle’s roof racks near the windshield. “The A-pillar trim retaining clips may not be properly engaged, which would allow the trim to detach,” Ford Motors said. in a notice sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) acknowledging receipt of the recall. Flying parts can also increase the threat of an accident, the firm said, either to the vehicle’s motive force or to others on the road.

Ford’s recall comes a year after NHTSA first announced it was investigating cars with gaming apps after receiving 164 court cases over trim parts that came off Explorer SUVs from 2011 to 2019. There are no reports of injuries or injuries similar to the spare parts, the firm noted at the time.

The company encourages owners of recalled cars to contact dealers for an ion when portions become available. Ford dealers will upgrade the A-pillar trim for free, if needed, based on the recall.

Car owners will receive a threat of coverage letter after March 13, 2024, and a second letter will be kept when available.

Consumers with questions about their cars can contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 24S02.
