Ford recalls about 113,000 F-150 pickup trucks due to rear axle problem

Ford Motor Company has recalled about 113,000 F-150 pickup trucks, raising concerns that a rear axle hub could break, causing the vehicle to lose power or move when parked.

The recall applies to certain 2021-2023 F-150 cars “equipped with the Trailer Tow Max Duty package and a heavy-duty 9. 75-inch axle with a 3/4 floating axle design,” according to a statement issued Tuesday via National Highway Traffic. The rear axle hub bolt “would possibly fatigue and break,” the recall said, “possibly damaging the shaft hub splines. “

Vehicles with broken splines on the axles would possibly roll while parked or lose engine power. “Both of these situations can increase the threat of an accident,” NHTSA said.

According to the recall, Ford is still figuring out how to fix the problem. Right now, NHTSA is advising owners of recalled pickup trucks who have issues related to rear axle bolts, such as a damn or damn noise, to take the cars to a dealership for a transient repair.

Owners can direct any questions to Ford Customer Service at (866) 436-7332. Ford’s recall is “23S65. “

Homeowners can also contact NHTSA’s safety hotline at (888) 327-4236 (toll-free at 1-800-424-9153) or www. nhtsa. gov for more information.

In October, Ford recalled more than 238,000 Explorers in the U. S. due to defective rear axle bolts.
