Ford Recalls 456,000 Broncos and Mavericks That Could Lose Power, Increasing Risk of Crashes

NEW YORK (AP) — Ford is recalling more than 456,000 Bronco Sport and Maverick cars because of a battery sensing factor that could lead to a loss of engine power, expanding the risk of a crash.

According to documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the frame and powertrain modules of those cars may not trip over adjustments in battery speed. And when you don’t trip, a low battery can lead to an unexpected loss of motive power. adding a sudden stop or the inability to restart, and the use of other electrical functions such as hazard lights.

The recall covers approximately 403,000 2021-2024 style year Bronco Sports produced between February 2020 and March 2024, as well as more than 53,000 2022-2023 style year Mavericks manufactured between February 2021 and October 2022, a Friday recall report notes.

To address this issue, dealers will recalibrate the frame and powertrain modules of the affected cars at no cost. Notification letters from landlords are expected to be mailed on May 13, in an NHSTA recall acknowledgment letter on Tuesday.

It was not immediately clear whether the cure would be available until mid-May. The Associated Press reached out to Ford on Wednesday for more information and added the total number of incidents reported so far.

As of Feb. 8, according to Friday’s recall report, Ford was not aware of any similar injuries; however, the Dearborn, Michigan-based company noted 917 similar warranty reports, 11 cash reports, and 54 visitor complaints. There were also two damaged assets. Claims and 3 unverified fire reports.

This is the only recall affecting Bronco Sport owners.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said last week it was investigating Ford’s proposed fix after the recall of about 43,000 select Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs, in which gas can drip from fuel injectors onto hot engine surfaces, expanding the risk of fire. He said the solution doesn’t come with repairing fuel leaks.
