Ford Offers Tesla Drivers $1,500 Discount to Switch

Ford has its attractive positions at Tesla.

The automaker unveiled an initiative earlier this month to offer Tesla owners a special deal on some of its cars.

Ford is offering Tesla who buys an F-150 Lightning or a Mustang Mach-E an additional $1,500 discount.

Ford Authority was the first to report the reduction. A spokesperson for the company showed the incentive and spoke to Business Insider about the program introduced on April 3.

People who decide to take advantage of the reduction don’t want to sell their Tesla, they just happen to have one, a source told Yahoo!Finance. La post states that the reduction is titled “Cash Bonus for Tesla’s Competitive Conquest” and will be available until July 8.

Separately, Ford slashed the price of some of its F-150 Lightning pickup trucks on Thursday, according to a CNBC report. The publication claims that Ford has reduced its price to between $2,000 and $5,500, depending on the vehicle’s trim level.

The 2024 car models currently start at $54,995 and $39,995, respectively. Tesla’s cheapest vehicle, the Model 3, starts at $38,990, while its Cybertruck electric pickup starts at $60,990.

Ford has faced pressure from Tesla’s competitive price cuts over the past year.

There are also symptoms that the automaker is struggling to get rid of its cars. Last year, BI reported that Mustang Mache-E SUVs were piling up at dealerships. Ford has also deferred about $12 billion in planned spending on its vehicle projects to 2023.

In December, Ford announced it would cut production of its electric pickup truck, the F-150 Lightning. In February, the company halted shipments of F-150 Lightning due to an undisclosed quality issue. And on Thursday, the company resumed shipments, according to CNBC.
