NEW YORK (AP) — Ford is recalling more than 456,000 Bronco Sport and Maverick cars because of a battery sensing factor that could lead to a loss of engine power, expanding the risk of a crash.
According to documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the frame and powertrain modules of those cars may not trip over adjustments in battery speed. And when you don’t trip, a low battery can lead to an unexpected loss of motive power. adding a sudden stop or the inability to restart, and the use of other electrical functions such as hazard lights.
The recall covers approximately 403,000 2021-2024 Bronco Sports produced between February 2020 and March 2024, as well as more than 53,000 2022-2023 Mavericks manufactured between February 2021 and October 2022, according to a recall report dated Friday.
To address this issue, dealers will recalibrate the frame and powertrain modules of the affected cars at no cost. Notification letters from landlords are expected to be mailed on May 13, in an NHSTA recall acknowledgment letter on Tuesday.
The software update is not yet available, a Ford spokesperson told The Associated Press today, but is expected to arrive later in the second quarter. In a statement, the spokesperson added that “safety is the most sensible priority and we are taking proactive measures. “measures for this factor temporarily and effectively. “
As of Feb. 8, according to NHSTA’s recall report, Ford was not aware of any injuries similar to this factor; however, the Dearborn, Michigan-based company noted 917 similar warranty reports, 11 cash reports, and 54 visitor complaints. There were also two claims for damage to assets and 3 unverified fire reports.
This is the only recall affecting Bronco Sport owners.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said last week it was investigating Ford’s proposed fix after the recall of about 43,000 select Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs, in which gas can drip from fuel injectors onto hot engine surfaces, expanding the risk of fire. He said the solution is not to fix fuel leaks.
