Ford issues “drive” notice for 765,000 cars and trucks, adding Mustangs and Rangers

According to Ford, this is the time when Ford issues a Takata-related non-driving recall for those cars, and the automaker is preparing to perform maintenance immediately.

DETROIT (FOX 2) — Ford is urging drivers of some of its most popular models, including the iconic Mustang, to stop driving their cars so they can upgrade to Takata airbags.

The Dearborn-based automaker has issued a driving ban for more than 765,000 cars and trucks, nearly a portion of which are located in the United States; this includes Ford Rangers, Mustangs, Fusion, Edge and Lincoln MKZ, among others.

According to Ford, this is around the time Ford issues a non-driving recall related to Takata for those cars, and the automaker is preparing to conduct maintenance immediately.

“These are the cars that automakers were supposed to bring in for repair, but it hasn’t been done yet,” Gilbert said.

Gilbert, WWJ automotive analyst, said caution should be taken not to drive to attract the driver’s attention because if the airbag deploys, it could be fatal.

“It’s like if an explosive or shrapnel exploded next to you, it could have very debilitating or even fatal consequences. “

“The age of these cars makes it increasingly imaginable that an internal component of the airbag could explode and eject sharp steel fragments during an accident. This could cause serious injury or even death to the driver or passengers,” Ford said in a statement. .
