For Tesla’s new futuristic Cybertruck, a fourth recall

Tesla is recalling its new futuristic Cybertruck pickup truck for the fourth time in the United States to address issues with decorative parts that can come loose and front wipers that can fail.

The new recalls, announced in documents released Tuesday through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, affect more than 11,000 trucks each.

The company says in documents that the front wiper motor controller would possibly impede its operation because it receives too much electrical current. A damaged windshield wiper can decrease visibility, increasing the risk of an accident. The Austin, Texas-based company says it is not aware of any injuries or damages caused by this issue.

Tesla will upgrade the windshield wiper motor without authorization for owners, who will be notified via letter on Aug. 18.

In the recall, a piece of trim along the truck bed can detach and fly off, creating a hazard for motorists.

Tesla claims in the documents that the trim piece is installed with adhesive and that this likely would not have been done at the factory.

The company will update the decorative piece so that it stays in place. Owners will also be informed by letter on August 18.

Tesla has recalled the stainless steel-clad Cybertruck four times since it went on sale on Nov. 30.

Also this week, Ford announced the recall of more than 550,000 pickup trucks in the United States because transmissions can slow down in first gear, no matter how fast the trucks travel.

The recall covers certain 2014 F-150 pickup trucks. Ford F-Series pickup trucks are the best-selling cars in the United States.
