Home ‘News’ Part 2020: BMW sold 61,000 electrified vehicles, minus Tesla
August 17, 2020/1 minutes of reading
According to the most recent sales report, BMW Group sold 61,652 electrified cars in the first part of 2020. Figures include plug-in hybrids and all-electric cars. In contrast, Californian automaker Tesla sold, so in 2020, 179050 games of its electric range.
Overall, BMW still has a bountiful advantage over Tesla with 842,153 first-half sales despite the coronavirus crisis, which reduced BMW sales by 21.7%. The overall unit difference is even greater if we come with the MINI logo (118,862 units) for a total of 961,015 vehicles.
It is also fair to acknowledge that 2019 and 2020 are transition years for BMWs who have recently sold only two all-electric cars: the i3 and mini Cooper SE. The all-electric BMW iX3 will go on sale later this year, but first in China. Then, in 2021, BMW will launch the iX crossover, followed in early 2022 through the BMW i4.
From then on, the Bavarians will embark on an all-electric offensive with almost all levels providing an all-electric model. The first in 2022-2023 will be the BMW i7, followed by the iX1 SUV and an electric five Series.
Tesla is also expected to expand its line to 2023 with cars such as the recently introduced Cybertruck and Roadster, as a future small hatchback and sedan.
By 2025, the top of high-end automakers will compete to the fullest in each and every segment with an electrified vehicle, so the race for new consumers will be more intriguing than ever.
