We live in a time of radical change in the generation of automobiles. Companies are racing to increase the diversity of electric cars and redefine our concept of revitalization. They are also perfecting the generation of motor assistance and looking at how to make cars an extension of their driving forces. .
The main goal of Sony Honda Mobility (SHM), with its AFEELA luxury sedan concept, is to emphasize the latter. The dynamic duo’s online page is full of marketing buzzwords, but what does the concept look like in person?
Recently, I invited through SHM to get to know AFEELA. It’s still a prototype, so some key data such as price, range, and charging times haven’t been revealed. But it’s still worth seeing how those two Japanese establishments put their knowledge into this. Spacious sedan.
Regardless of the manufacturer, I love large sedans and it’s great to see AFEELA continue down this path, torch in hand. The automobile is an enchanting and sublime beast. You can call it simply a Lucid knockoff, but I’d say it’s more of a modern design language that assembles optimized aerodynamics into a spacious sedan package.
When AFEELA staff pressed a hidden button near the car’s window frame, the giant driver’s front door flew open, revealing a very welcoming atmosphere. A facial popularity chamber is incorporated into the B-pillar that allows for even smoother opening and closing.
The interior is minimalist and airy, with a single button on the centre console, possibly for parking, front and aback, and from the usual steering wheel, there’s a yoke for what AFEELA staff described as an unobstructed view of the tool cluster display. On the right is a giant screen showing an extensive infotainment system, with a Sony gamepad fixed underneath on its own stand; We’ll talk about that in a moment.
The front and rear seats are spacious, with a delightful overall quality of fabrics and comfortable white leather. Visibility is sometimes good; The car’s upper beltline means you sit in it like a luxury cocoon. The rear passengers each have a widescreen display, I didn’t spend much time on it, and the equipment provided didn’t work.
The 3 basic pillars of AFEELA are Augmentation, Autonomy and Affinity. The construction means that the vehicle can be replaced and adapted to the owner, and it has a variety of themes to suit any personality. Sony’s Gran Turismo assets are themed, converting the colors of the AFEELA interface and sounds to give them more excitement. [You can also drive AFEELA now in GT7 thanks to the latest update. Of course, it understeers too much. —Ed. ]
It’s fun and all, but what caught my attention was how sleek the interface was. To move other screens (inside the huge center display or onto other screens in the vehicle), simply press, hold, move and release. The haptic feedback is pretty good, the graphics are incredibly crisp and colorful, and there’s no lag in moving elements between screens. As staff noted, Sony has a wealth of experience in this domain through the progression of its smartphones and gaming systems, and indeed shows.
