FRANCFORT, Germany – Investigators searched Wednesday for the offices of car manufacturer Fiat Chrysler and truck manufacturer Iveco in Germany, Switzerland and Italy, following an investigation into alleged illegal handling of diesel emissions.
The German judicial government is conducting a thorough investigation into the alleged manipulation of 200,000 cars manufactured through the two corporations and their subsidiaries, according to a Eurojust press, an EU firm that supports judicial cooperation and cross-border investigation.
The probe focuses on cars that can pass emissions tests, but closes their emissions systems under genuine driving conditions.
Eurojust’s press release mentioned the affected vehicles, but Frankfurt police asked buyers to play them as witnesses, featuring the Fiat, Jeep, Alfa Romeo and Iveco models manufactured from 2014 to 2019 to Euro 5 and Euro 6 diesel standards. The engines in question were the 1.3, 1.6, 2.0 and 2.3-litre multijet engines and the 1.6, 2.0, 2.3 and 3.0-litre engines.
Fiat Chrysler and Iveco’s parent company, CNH Industrial, showed that several of its offices had been registered and were cooperating with the investigation.
